U8 – U16 Travel Soccer Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The NFUSC offers boys and girls from the ages of eight to sixteen years old the opportunity to play on a travel soccer team in the Fall as well as the Spring (subject to the amount of participants).  The Club registers most if not all of their travel soccer teams in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).      You can find out more about LIJSL using the link found within this webpage.

The travel team program provides young soccer players with a fun and competitive experience while building the principles of teamwork.  Training is a part of every travel team program whether playing in the Fall or Spring.  During the Fall, each travel team has one hour of training per week and a one hour team practice.  Games for the U8 to U13 teams are played primarily on Saturdays while U14 and older teams play most of their games on Sundays.  In the Spring, most games are played on Saturdays due to decreased amount of teams playing Island-wide.  Currently, all home games, training sessions and team practices are hosted at the Mattituck School District’s Aldrich Lane Facility, Cutchogue East Elementary School, Cutchogue West School (Admin Offices) and Mattituck Jr-Sr. High School.  The NFUSC is pursuing other fields located on the North Fork as well.

The Club follows the player development initiatives established by U.S. Soccer and the guidelines of Long Island Junior Soccer League. It is the goal of our Club to align our travel teams in a division with other teams of similar ability.  Most if not all of the games are played in Suffolk County.   The Club may schedule a mandatory pre-season clinic for all players to participate in.  Some age groups have enough players from our North Fork communities to create more than one team.  The NFUSC will distribute those players evenly for U8 & U9 teams.   For U10 and older teams, if there is more than one team for a birth year, players are grouped by ability.   The Club promotes 50% game participation within the U8 and U12 travel teams which transitions to merit-based game participation with our U13 and older travel teams (please refer to Player Development Initiatives by US Youth Soccer) .

The NFUSC strongly encourages all of our travel teams to be coached by volunteers.  All coaches shall possess the risk management training, background check and certifications needed to coach a team in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (see links below).  If a travel team cannot find a volunteer to coach a travel team the Club will hire a trainer at an added cost to that team.

North Fork United Soccer Club’s travel team cost happens to be among the lowest on Long Island.  The fee covers travel team registration, referee fees, insurances, field use fees, field equipment (nets, goals, flags, paint, etc.) and training by a professional soccer training academy.   The training includes ten (10) one and a half  (1.5) hour training sessions.  There is a separate expense for uniform packages.  All players are expected to have cleats, shin guards and the appropriately sized/inflated soccer ball for training.
